BIOGRAPHY
Nanna Hellberg is an artist born in Stockholm, Sweden. She studied at
the Royal University College of Fine Art in Stockholm (MA) and participated
in the Sound Art program at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen
and the National Academy in Oslo (MA). Her work involves both artistic
production and experimental music practice – most recently as guitarist
in a kraut project. Her performance and video works draw inspiration from
autobiographical narratives as well as music and subcultures, religious
rituals and violence. On a thematic level there is a presence of mortality
in many of her works that refers to questions of self-destruction and
religious emotions. By recycling earlier performances she relates to a
history of violence with a physical expression reproduced for her own
themes. There is often a focus on the use and abuse of the female body
through a sublimated rage in performative rituals. Hellberg has exhibited
throughout Europe and her recent group exhibitions were held at Kunsthal
Charlottenborg in Copenhagen, Konstakademien in Stockholm and the Museum
of Contemporary Art in Roskilde, DK..
